The Passport Service is reminding people to lodge their renewal application forms early.
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it issued 630,000 passports last year, with half of those processed during the summer months alone.
Around 8,000 applications are lodged with the service each week and the department says this jumps to 19,000 applications per week in July.
