Private Seán Rooney's family will be reunited with his remains at Casement Aerodrome in Dublin this morning.

The 24 year-old's body is being repatriated home from Beirut to Ireland after a UN ceremony was held in his honour yesterday.

He's on board an Irish Air Corps plane, after he was shot and killed in an attack on Peacekeeping duty in Lebanon last week.

Private Rooney was among eight members of the Defence Forces that were travelling in convoy last Friday night when they came under fire.

23-year-old Trooper Shane Kearney was also seriously injured in the attack.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says he's confident they can find out what caused Private Rooney's death;

"You know there are three investigations; UN, Lebanese government and the Irish Defence Forces own investigations so I would have confidence in those investigations to find out exactly what happened."

He says it's also important that we "avoid any speculation, I think, at this point until those investigations are done."
