The Regency Hotel in Whitehall has rebranded over a year after a shocking gangland murder.

Kinahan gangster David Byrne was gunned down at a boxing weigh in on the 5th of February 2016.

Children ran for cover when a gang dressed as gardai stormed the hotel in broad daylight.

The attack brought the Hutch-Kinahan feud onto the streets of Dublin, having kicked off the previous September on the Costa Del Sol

It will now be known as Bonnington Dublin, after its sister hotel in Dubai.

Earlier this year the Regency came out of examinership.

The old Regency web site has been taken down and the Bonnington has already started taking bookings under its new name.

The hotel has a refurbished lobby and reception areas, and has recently opened a new McGettigan's Irish bar.

James McGettigan, managing director of the hotel, said: "We are delighted to be in a position to confirm that we are bringing the Bonnington Hotel 'home' to Dublin.

"The Bonnington Hotel is already regarded as one of the leading hotels in Dubai and we are relishing the opportunity to launch it in Ireland."

The hotel forms part of The McGettigan Hotel Group, founded by Jim McGettigan.

The family own a number of hotels and pubs in Ireland and overseas.
