There's concern time is running out to bring in new laws that will allow nightclubs to stay open until 6am.
Groups representing publicans have called on the government to publish the legislation that will also mean pubs can keep operating until 12.30am, seven nights a week.
With the Dáil summer break looming, they say they're worried the government is trying to mothball reform of the licensing laws.
Donall O'Keeffe from the Licensed Vintners' Association is worried the proposed changes to the current legislation will be shelved:
"We're now heading towards the summer and there's still no sign of publication so we are getting concerned. We all understand that the government is staring down the barrell of a general election, certainly no later than next March. Given that it needs to be scrutinised by the Dáil and enacted, it is now high time for it to be published."
Publicans aren't the only ones concerned about the potential delay, with the Give Us The Night campaign describing the long wait for new laws to be introduced as "bordering on farcical"
DJ Sunil Sharpe from the Give Us The Night campaign says:
"This is a much smaller piece of legislation that was proposed and discussed at the end of 2022 and the fact it's taken the government so long to get these minimal changes over the line is alarming and it's bordering on farcical at this point."
