A protest will get underway in Dublin today to highlight how people are being 'priced out' of the housing market.
The Raise the Roof Housing Campaign says an average priced home in Dublin is beyond the means of 85 per cent of all families.
Protesters will meet at the Department of Housing at a quarter past 1 this afternoon. The demonstration will be limited to 45 minutes and will be in compliance with public health guidelines.
The group says it wan't to highlight what it describes as the failure of the Government to bring forward any new measures or plan to tackle the deepening housing crisis.
Coordinator Macdara Doyle says the Government's housing plan must ensure developers don't dominate the market:
"Primarily what we need to see is that the plan abandons developer-lead policy that has failed us over the last decade and does what agencies such as the ESRI have recommended. That's to double and dramatically increase investment in housing. We're also saying that we must prioritise delivery of public affordable and cost rental units. Affordability is a huge, huge issue."
The Raise the Roof campaign group is comprised of trade unions, major housing and homeless agencies, women’s groups, political parties and groupings, representatives of older people, children’s advocacy groups, community organisations, student unions, Traveller groups, housing academics and experts.
It's also planning a national housing demonstration in the city on October 2nd, depending on the public health situation.
