The government's reportedly thinking about bringing in a fast-food exclusion zone around schools.

According to the Irish Independent, a coalition of health groups want to make outlets at least a 15 minute walk away for pupils.

The proposal for a 1 and a half kilometre 'no-fry zone' around schools is in a bid to battle the obesity epidemic with a quarter of 11 year olds now clinically overweight.

A coalition of health groups is behind a push to stop fatty foods being sold within a 15 minute walk of the school yard.

National planning guidelines which would govern where take-aways could set up, are currently passing thorough the consultation stage with the government due to sign off on them in the coming months.
