More plastic microfibres are released during delicate washes compared to other cycles.
That's according to new research from Newcastle University in England, which found millions of microfibres are released every time we wash clothes in a washing machine.
The microfibres are then drained from the machines, which can lead to plastic pollution in the ocean.
The study has found it's the amount of water used during the wash cycle, rather than the spinning, that influences the amount of plastic shed from clothes.
