Dublin is a step closer to seeing 30 kilometre per hour speed limits in all parts of the city.
Councillors supported the move at this afternoon's DCC Transport Committee meeting and it now moves to the next stage, before people can have their say during the public consultation process.
The reduced speed was previously introduced in residential areas, but will now expand to all areas.
The proposal is part of the mobility plan to cater for social distancing among increased numbers of pedestrians and cyclists.
The measure is being introduced in response to Covid-19 as part of traffic calming measures to protect the larger numbers of walkers, cyclists and vulnerable road users moving around the city.
Green Party Councillor Michael Pidgeon says it's hugely positive for Dublin:
Dublin City's Transport Policy Committee just approved these 30kph changes.
They'll now come before the full council on Monday, then public consultation.
Support from all members who spoke on the topic (bar the car park rep). 🥳🥳🥳https://t.co/knvZ5h7sD2— Michael Pidgeon (@Pidge) June 3, 2020
