A protest in Dublin last night against the proposed vaccine pass for indoor dining is being described as reckless.
Around 1,000 people took part in the demonstration at the Phoenix Park near Áras an Uactaráin.
Gardaí attended the event to monitor the situation, with many people not wearing face masks.
Dublin Councillor Mannix Flynn says protestors should respect efforts to protect people from Covid 19:
"Here we have a blatant disregard for the rest of us."
"We respect their right to protest, or to not wear a masks."
"But they also have to respect our rights in relation to this particular matter."
"They also have to respect our laws as we seek to protect ourselves and protect our society, as we open up the economy and gain more and more freedoms."
The left is strongly opposed to the government's proposal to discriminate between vaccinated and unvaccinated.
But it's the far-right which is at the core of protests against it.
For them it's just another opportunity to recruit to their hateful ideology.
Stay away from them. https://t.co/E3r55aZwuC— Paul Murphy 🏳️⚧️ (@paulmurphy_TD) July 16, 2021
"People Need To Get Real"
"People need to get real with this."
"There is light at the end of the tunnel."
"I think we should persist with the policies that exist at the moment."
"Take your vaccination and let's all live together."
"We live in a democracy, and of course people have a right to protest."
"But not at the cost of other people's lives of course."
