A Dublin city councillor says it's vital the momentum of pedestrianisation in the capital is maintained and that bringing it to South William Street is imperative.
Paddy McCartan's comments come after public reps agreed to include making the area near St Stephen's Green traffic-free in the latest city development plan.
A trial last summer saw part of the street pedestrianised after opposition from a car park along the popular road.
Councillor Catherine Stocker says they can't be held hostage by the car park of a shop according to the Irish Times.
It follows the pedestrianisation of Capel Street in the north inner city in May while Parliament Street will become traffic-free on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings until September.
The temporary measure will start this week.
