People travelling through Dublin and Cork Airports from next week are being advised to wear facemasks.
From Tuesday, it is recommended that passengers wear the face coverings at all times when inside airport buildings or in car park shuttle buses.
DAA says only people about to fly will be allowed inside terminal buildings, and those who are dropping passengers off or meeting arrivals should stay outside.
Enhanced cleaning measures will also be in place at the airports, while 960 hand sanitizers and 720 protective plexiglass screens have been installed.
“The safety of our passengers, our employees and all the other staff that work at Dublin and Cork airports is always daa’s main priority and we will never compromise on that,” said daa Chief Executive Dalton Philips.
“Our enhanced measures are based on a series of risk assessments that we have undertaken in recent weeks, coupled with the respective national and European guidelines,” according to Mr Philips. “Our airline partners have also introduced new health and safety measures and we will continue to work with them to protect passengers through their entire journey,” he added.
In line with Irish Government policy, both Dublin and Cork airports have remained open throughout the pandemic. This was to allow for the repatriation of Irish residents and those based overseas and also to facilitate essential cargo flights.
Passenger numbers at both airports declined by 99% during the peak of the crisis and are currently down 98% compared to the same period last year.
