A court has heard how a security worker died after being stabbed over 100 times in Palmerstown.

Criostoir MacCartaigh has gone on trial accused of murdering David Whyte five years ago.

On September 26th 2008, a passerby stumbled upon Mr. Whyte's body while out walking his dog near a graveyard at the end of Mill Lane in Palmerstown.

A post mortem revealed he died after suffering over 100 stab wounds - the most serious of which cut the jugular vein in his neck.

Criostoir MacCartaigh, who has an address at an Gleann, Palmerstown, has gone on trial accused of killing Mr. Whyte after a row broke out on Ulster Street in Phibsboro.

Today, the jury was told that a friend of Mr. MacCartaigh's spotted the victim lying on the street while his alleged killer crouched over him with a knife and that he then helped him move the body to the old cemetery where the accused allegedly continued to stab him before dumping his body.

Mr. MacCartaigh denies the charge and his trial is due to take around two weeks.
