More than 2,000 new faults have been reported by Eircom customers today.
That brings the total number of faults nationwide to around 8,200.
Eircom says 700 crews are currently working but, repair efforts are being hampered by poor weather conditions.
Counties Cork, Galway, Mayo, Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford are the worst affected areas.
Eircom says they are working to restore services and technicians will be working throughout the weekend.
