Despite being eligible to do so, over 7 in 10 renters have not claimed a €500 tax credit.
That's according to Taxback's most recent Taxpayer Sentiment Survey.
The measure was announced as part of Budget 2023, which allows tenants - paying rent in private accommodation - to claim the credit.
Taxback.com estimates approximately 400,000 renters are eligible - 190,000 have claimed to date.
The main reasons given, as to why renters have yet to claim:
- Not having the chance to do so (21%)
- Having no way to do so, as landlords have not issued receipts (16%)
- Being "uncomfortable" to ask landlords for specific information (13%)
- Landlord not being registered with the Rental Tenancies Board (10%)
