The Psychiatric Nurses Association is calling for an urgent meeting with the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly.

It comes after the announcement of the closure of 11 beds at the Linn Dara CAMHS unit at Cherry Orchard Hospital in Dublin yesterday.

The unit plays an important role in child and adolescent mental health in the Dublin area.

The use of the beds will be suspended until at least September due to a lack of staff at the facility.

While Head of The PNA Peter Hughes recognises the difficulty in the recruitment of nurses, he's urging the minister to look at other incentives.

"I wrote to the Minister looking for his immediate intervention in this case to look at inventive ways of solving this.

"We have to make sure that retention and recruitment within the CAMHS service is solidified going forward."

Mr Hughes also says they are ready to discuss the matter with the Department of Health to find a solution that works for everyone.

"We're available to meet with the Minister to look at innovate ways of resolving this."
