Trinity College has received a record number of applications through the CAO system.
The 11 per cent increase follows the university featuring in the hit TV show Normal People
40,000 people have applied for a place at Trinity College in September
Senior management at the university say they were anticipating an increase, after the TV series.
Normal People - written by Sally Rooney who attended Trinity College - aired in May and June, during the CAO 'change of mind' period.
Dean of undergraduate studies, Professor Kevin Mitchell, says the show gave a good profile of studying at Trinity College:
"It showed the kind of educational journey that the students went on. There's some fantastic scenes of discussion in the classroom.
"You can see some of the characters like Connell growing in confidence."
