The Dublin Marathon will include a non-binary entry category for the first time.

The race director says it is being introduced following discussions with clubs and the category will have its own prize.

This year's event on the October Bank Holiday is already a sell out.

Runners who wish to switch to the non-binary category will be able to do so from August.

Meanwhile John Treacy has been chosen as the official race starter for the 2023 Irish Life Dublin Marathon. It's to mark the 30th anniversary of his win in the 1993 Dublin Marathon.

The Olympic Silver medalist and Irish marathon record holder ran 2:14.40 on the day to claim victory.

Speaking at the announcement, John Treacy said: “I’m delighted to be the official starter at the Irish Life Dublin Marathon. It’s 30 years since I won the race and when Jim (Aughney) gave me the call I was delighted to do it. I knew it was very much the tail-end of my career and I knew  it would be my last marathon really so I wanted to do it in Dublin and it was actually Noel Carroll  that got in touch and put the idea in my head. I dwelt on it for a while and said ‘yeah, it would be nice to finish in Dublin’ and so the Dublin Marathon enabled me to do that and it was a lovely day for me personally as well.''
