An ancient chamber in north Dublin has been vandalised less than a month after it was first discovered in Donabate.
The underground tunnel, which dates back to the 6th century, was damaged on Sunday evening.
Local councillor Corina Johnston posted on Facebook to say a weapon was used to smash stones around the enclosure;
"I am absolutely appalled and very angry that the recent archaeology find at Corballis, Donabate has been damaged by thugs in recent days. It seems a weapon (possibly a pick axe) was used to smash one of the large stones and other smaller stones around the enclosure into pieces with a huge gaping hole leaving the souterrain exposed to further destruction."
The damage has been reported to Gardaí and there are calls for the site to be properly sealed, protected and preserved.
