A new group is being set up to help find homes for families who can't afford the cost of Dublin rents.
Ministers have held a meeting to discuss the homelessness crisis, and have agreed to create a Social Rental Agency specifically for Dublin.
The new group will work with Government departments and homeless agencies to help families find homes to rent.
The Government's also agreed to spend €35M on doing up local authority housing, and give homeless families priority when thousands of homes become available next year.
What is a Social Rental Agency?
Mike Allen from Focus Ireland says it's a way in which the Government or local authorities "can sublet accommodation from private landlords, and make it available to homeless families or people who can't afford to pay private rental rates".
Will it solve the problem?
Mike says the overall plan will go a significant way to solving the problem - if it's implemented. He admits there are certain limitations; like a lack of housing, and the Government's refusal to raise the rent allowance rate.
A number of families are currently living in temporary accommodation - like hostels or hotels - because landlords say the amount of money they're being given by the state doesn't match the going rent rates.
The Social Protection Minister, Joan Burton, has said that she will not be raising this rate before the Budget in October.
