There are going to be new rules introduced for people who use e-scooters.
You will have to be 16 to use one, you can't go faster than 20 kilometres per hour and you have to have lights.
Anyone caught breaking the rules will be issued with a fixed charge notice which is a fine.
The rules will be discussed at a road safety conference today.
Junior Transport Minister Jack Chambers says the regulations are needed.
''We will have a cap of 20 km per hour, there will be a maximum weight and minimum requirement and you will have to have front and rear lights and brakes. We will learn from other European countries from their learning to provide a regulatory framework for Ireland.''
