New guidelines are being launched today on tackling the spread of MRSA in Irish hospitals.
The HSE has reported that the number of MRSA infections in the countries hospitals has fallen consistently in recent years.
The so-called superbug does not respond to antibiotic treatment and can be fatal if contracted by people who are already unwell.
The Health Minister Dr. James Reilly is launching the revised guidelines.
