Senior ministers are expected to approve a bill to create a new gambling regulator this morning.
It's expected the body will start its work as soon as the bill is enacted.
One of the main roles will be to look at the impact technology has had on the gambling industry.
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland will do this by regulating advertising, gambling websites and apps.
A major focus will also be put on public well-being, in both online and face-to-face gambling.
The Gambling Regulation Bill will also provide for a new approach to the licensing of gambling in Ireland.
The regulator is expected to begin its work in 2023, once the bill is approved and enacted.
A CEO of the body has been appointed ahead of the legislation being passed by the Oireachtas.
