New research shows nearly 80% of office workers want to have the choice to work from home.
The study by Trinity College Dublin and the National Transport Authority also shows most people want to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.
77.9% of 1,200 workers surveyed wanted to have the option to work from home.
The findings, published in the Journal of Transport Geography, showed participants also said remote working led to higher productivity and a better work-life balance.
HR expert and Director at CIPD Ireland Mary Connaughton, says companies are reporting that most workers are happy to come into the office twice a week.
45% of office workers said they would 'always' like to work from home on Mondays and Fridays, compared with 25% expressing a preference for remote work on the other days of the week.
Researchers say this pattern could cause potential issues for public transport services, with demand more likely to be concentrated in the middle of the week.
