A jury in the murder trial of a man gunned down outside his home in Tallaght has heard the victim was shot a total of five times.

Eugene Cullen from Derry Road, Crumlin denies murdering Seamus O'Byrne in March 2009.

Mr O'Byrne was gunned down outside the home he shared with his girlfriend Sharon Rattigan at Tymon Park North in Tallaght.

A lone gunman shot him several times at point blank range while Sharon was putting their child into the back of a car.

Today, the State Pathologist Marie Cassidy gave evidence of the postmortem carried out after Mr O'Byrne was removed from the scene.

She said she found a total of five bullets lodged in his head, body and leg.

Gunshot wounds to the chest proved to be fatal, she said.

Yesterday, the court heard from Sharon Rattigan, who told the jury she was shot in the leg after wrestling the gunman to the ground.

Eugene Cullen isn't suspected of being the gunman but it's the prosecution's case that he plotted to kill Mr. O'Byrne and was involved in the getaway.

The trial continues before Mr. Justice Barry White at the Central Criminal Court.
