The Minister for Sport is meeting public health officials and top sporting figures today to discuss the lifting of restrictions at matches.

Last month it was announced that all sports fixtures be played behind closed doors after a spike in Covid-19 infections.

Until recently up to 200 people were allowed to gather together for a sporting event, but last month the government said that matches must be played behind closed doors as part of new restrictions to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Today, Sports Minister Catherine Martin is meeting with top officials from the GAA, FAI, IRFU and Sport Ireland for a teleconference with the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and Dr Glynn.

Bosses at the sports bodies are expected to lay out their concerns and suggestions to health officials, with a view to working out how "current restrictions could be lifted.
