Retired surgeon Michael Shine has been jailed for 4 years for abusing young boys over 20 years.
The 86 year old, with an address in Ballsbridge, was convicted by a jury of indecently assaulting seven young boys.
The abuse happened during medical examinations at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
Shine also abused boys at two private clinics in the town between 1971 and 1992.
One of his victims, 56 year old Patrick Cusack, said he hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in 45 year until the guilty verdicts were announced.
Speaking outside court this afternoon, he said he was pleased with the sentence.
