A Fine Gael MEP is calling for the eradication of bankers' bonuses.
Sean Kelly says Irish banks should follow Dutch banks which he says have started to substantially reduce bankers' bonuses.
The Ireland South MEP says that if banks do not want to abolish bonuses completely then, at the very least, they should radically reduce them.
"There are an awful lot of people who work way beyond the hours they're officially supposed to work at and they don't get anything - and they don't really look for anything" he said.
"So why should bankers, in particular - who are well paid - continue with that culture?" he added.
