Maynooth University's Department of Law has apologised to a student following a reply they received on Twitter.
The response a student was given when they asked about the exam timetable was roundly criticised online.
The reply from the official account of the university's law departmenr on Saturday afternoon said: "First, we don't make the timetable. Second, assuming you have been studying all year, and not leaving it to the last minute, it shouldn't be a proble,. Third, you do remember the Leaving Cert, right?"
Maynooth apologised this morning after a backlash overnight , saying it was intended to be funny -- but they got it wrong.
"The Department apologises unreservedly for the tweet... It was intended to be funny. It wasn't. It was ill-judged and unthoughtful. Crucially, it does not reflect our approach to student support, which we treat with the utmost importance, at all times," it wrote.
