An investigation is underway after a man was shot dead outside a house in Drimnagh in Dublin.
The victim, a well-known gangland criminal, was gunned down as he sat in his car this afternoon.
A blue Garda forensics tent in the front garden of a house on Cooley Road in Drimnagh marks the spot where the man died just before 3pm today.
Plastic sheeting surrounds a bullet riddled Audi which is parked nearby.
The driver's window was smashed in and several bullet holes were clearly visible on the windscreen before Gardai covered it up.
It appears the man was targeted while sitting in the car before he managed to scramble out of the passenger side as he tried to escape the gunman.
Several spent gun cartridges could also be seen scattered near some shattered glass.
The victim lived in the Drimnagh area and was a well-known gangland figure who was heavily involved in the Dublin drugs trade.
The 39-year-old was twice cleared of ordering a gangland hit several years ago.
A burnt out jeep was found not far from where the shooting took place and Gardai have taken it away for tests.
The scene remains sealed off this evening and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
