A man has pleaded guilty to assaulting Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman over the weekend.
45-year-old Karl Ronan of Erris Square, Waterville, Blanchardstown appeared before Blanchardstown District Court earlier today.
Karl Ronan was arrested following the assault of Minister for Children and Integration Roderic O’Gorman while he was out canvassing on Saturday.
He has been charged with assault, criminal damage to Minister O’Gorman’s clipboard and the use of or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour “with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace might have been occasioned.”
The court heard Mr. Ronan is pleading guilty to all three charges.
There was no objection to bail, but the conditions are Mr. Ronan must not make any comment about the case online or contact Minister O’Gorman.
The Minister will now be given the opportunity to address the court or write a letter to the court for consideration.
An application for legal aid was denied and Mr. Ronan has been ordered to appear again before the same court on December 17th.
