An international hitman, who was jailed in Ireland for his role in a Kinahan cartel murder plot, is to be surrendered to authorities in Lithuania.

Imre Arakas, a former soldier from Estonia, is wanted there for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Lithuanian popstar’s lover.

In April 2017, Imre Arakas travelled from Alicante to Dublin to kill a man called James ‘Mago’ Gately.

It’s believed Mr Gately was targeted by the Kinahan cartel because of his links with the Hutches.

Arakas, a former soldier turned hitman, was arrested in a safehouse in Dublin and in late 2018, the Special Criminal Court jailed him for six years.

That same year, the first of two European warrants for his arrest were issued by authorities in Lithuania, where he’s wanted for murder.

He’s accused of murdering a man suspected of having an affair with a Lithuanian popstar. The man who was shot dead in 2015.

Arakas opposed his extradition but today, Mr Justice Paul Burns, dismissed his objections and approved the order to surrender him to authorities in Lithuania.
