Man Dies Following Late Night Shooting In Meath

A man has died in a shooting in Meath overnight.

The 39 year-old was hit a number of times outside his home in the Castlemartin Estate in Bettystown at around 11.40pm.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda, where he passed away a short time later.

The scene is sealed off for a technical examination.

A small van was found on fire at Eastham Road shortly after the shooting. This scene is also preserved for tests by Garda Crime Scene Examiners.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the gun attack or who may have information to contact the incident room at Ashbourne Garda Station on 01-801 0600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Officers are particularly anxious to hear from road users with camera footage, who were in the area at the time.

The local Coroner has been notified.
