A man described by his solicitor as a “loner” has appeared in court accused of making a death threat online against the Sinn Féin leader, Mary Lou McDonald.
Richard McGreevy, of Whitechurch Place, Rathfarnham, was refused bail and remanded in custody.
Gardai believe the alleged threat against Mary Lou McDonald was broadcast on TikTok from Richard McGreevy’s home in Rathfarnham three days ago.
He was arrested yesterday and appeared in court this afternoon accused of making the threat against the Sinn Féin leader.
Detective Sergeant Gareth Kane told the judge they have all devices they believe were used to make the threat online.
During his contested bail application, Mr McGreevy told the court he was angry that day and that he didn’t mean to put it up, nor did he mean for it to go viral.
The judge was told he has an acquired brain injury and lives on his own with his two dogs in social housing.
He was denied bail today and his case will come back before the courts next week.
