32-year-old Jonathan O’Neill of Cromcastle Road, Kilmore, Dublin 5, appeared in court this afternoon, charged with two counts of assault causing harm and one count of robbery.

Another man remains in garda custody.

At around 1:30 on Saturday morning Gardaí were notified of an alleged assault at the junction of Dame Street and Euston Street in Dublin city.

Two off duty gardaí were injured in the alleged incident, with one still in critical condition in hospital.

Jonathan O’Neill appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon, where it was alleged he was involved in the violent assault of both men, and the court heard a phone and wallet was stolen from one man.

Detective Sergeant Paul Carney told the court Mr O’Neill admitted to being in the presence of the second suspect at the time and striking one of the injured parties.

He also identifed himself in CCTV footage in the area around the time of the alleged incident.

It is claimed he punched one victim in the head, resulting in the victim falling to the ground, where Mr. O’Neill is alleged to have proceeded to kick him in the head.
