A man has had to undergo surgery for a broken jaw after an unprovoked attack on the Luas.
He was jumped by a teenage gang, after getting off a tram at the Suir Road stop earlier this month.
The vicious assault took place at 5:20PM on Sunday January 12th.
The man was travelling on the Luas with his wife, when a gang began to heckle them.
When the couple got off at Suir Road, at least one member of the gang jumped the man from behind.
Another of the group held the doors of the Luas open, so the tram couldn't leave the stop.
Following the brutal attack, the culprits jumped back on and continued their journey.
The victim's wife phoned 999, but Gardai never showed up.
In a follow-up call later that night, the couple was told there were no patrol cars free to respond.
Gardai have since apologised to the man for the delay in taking his statement.
The victim's mother, Ann O'Hara, says Gardai have identified the culprits.
"They are underage and the chances are nothing will get done because of that".
"They will be protected, but my son won't. His details will be out there, but these little darlings will be protected", she said.
There has been a rise in reports of anti-social behaviour and assaults in the Dublin 8 area recently.
It has prompted calls for more to be done to stop those responsible.
