An investigation's underway after a man, due to stand trial for the murder of his wife and children in south Dublin, was found dead in prison.
Sameer Syed's body was discovered in his cell at the Midlands Prison yesterday afternoon.
He was due to stand trial at the Central Criminal Court next Wednesday for the murder of his 37-year-old wife Seema Banu, his 11-year-old daughter Asfira Riza and six-year-old son Faizan Syed.
They were found dead at their home in Rathfarnham in October 2020.
Gardaí discovered their bodies after residents became concerned when the family hadn't been seen for several days. The family had recently moved to Ireland from India.
In a statement, the Irish Prison Service said it could confirm "the death of a prisoner in the Midlands Prison".
There are no details on the circumstances surrounding his death.
However, the Irish Prison Service said all deaths in custody are investigated by the service, the Inspector of Prisons and Gardaí.
