A man will be sentenced next week for trying to kill his heavily pregnant ex-girlfriend.
At his sentence hearing today, the court was shown some distressing footage of the woman being kicked and punched in the stomach down a laneway in Dublin city.
Some may find the following report distressing.
On the 25th of April 2021, Dean Paget and his then-girlfriend were both homeless and sleeping rough in Dublin city centre.
On that day, she presented at the Rotunda Hospital with obvious signs of having been assaulted.
She was 32 weeks pregnant and concerned about her baby.
Tests confirmed her worst fears.
Her baby had died.
Distressing CCTV footage of Dean Paget dragging her down a laneway, and kicking and punching her in the stomach, were shown in court today.
He was allowed to wait outside while it was played for the judge.
In her Victim Impact Statement, the woman said she was looking forward to bringing her baby girl into the world. She had named her Ruby Rose.
She said all hope was torn away from her that night and she wanted him to pay for what he has done.
He’ll be sentenced for her attempted murder next week.
