The partner of Dean Fitzpatrick's mother Audrey has been charged with murdering her son in north Dublin last May.

Dave Mahon, with an address at The Crescent, Ongar Village, Clonsilla, appeared before Dublin District Court this morning.

On May 25th last, 23-year-old Dean Fitzpatrick was stabbed at an apartment at Northern Cross on the Malahide Road.

The father of one was rushed to Beaumont hospital where he lost his fight for life in the early hours of May 26th.

His mother's partner Dave Mahon was arrested by appointment at Coolock Garda Station this morning.

He was charged with Dean's murder and brought before Judge Cormac Dunne at Dublin District Court.

The 43-year-old appeared tanned and carried a walking cane when he was escorted into the court room for his brief appearance.

The court heard he has kept in touch with Gardai throughout their investigation and returned from Spain to face the murder charge.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next week.

Dean Fitzpatrick is a brother of Amy Fitzpatrick, who hasn't been seen since she went missing in Spain in 2008.
