A man has been arrested after an assault in the city last night which left another man in hospital.
The suspect, who was armed with a knife, approached a man on Lower Abbey Street at around 9pm and demanded money.
He then assaulted the man before stealing money and running from the scene.
Gardai arrested a man in his 20s a short time later, and he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
The victim was taken to The Mater Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A garda spokesperson says: "Gardaí have arrested a man following a robbery on Abbey Street Lower, Dublin 1 yesterday evening, Thursday 8th June 2023.
"Shortly before 9pm, the suspect approached a man on Abbey Street Lower armed with a knife and demanded money. The suspect assaulted the man and proceeded to steal cash from him, before fleeing the scene on foot.
"Gardaí were notified of the incident and apprehended the suspect on Abbey Street Lower a short time later. The man (aged in his 20s) was arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Dublin.
"The injured male was taken to The Mater Hospital for treatment of his injuries which are understood to be non-life threatening.
"Investigations are ongoing."
