A man has been arrested after an armed robbery in Dublin 8 this morning.
Gardaí say a man, armed with a hammer, approached security employees at a cash machine in Cornmarket just after 6am demanding the contents of the cash box which was being transported.
He took the cash and ran from the scene.
Gardaí found him nearby and the money was recovered.
The man in his 30s is being questioned at a garda station in the city where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
A garda spokesperson says: "Gardaí are investigating a cash in transit robbery that occurred in Dublin 8 this morning, Friday, 22nd December 2023 at approximately 6.15am.
"A man, armed with a hammer, approached security employees at a cash machine in Cornmarket demanding the contents of the cash box which was being transported.
"The man then took the cash box and fled the scene. Gardaí subsequently located the man and arrested him nearby and all the cash was recovered.
"The man (30s) is currently being detained at a Garda station in Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
"No injuries were reported during the course of this incident.
"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on Cornmarket between 6am and 7am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
