A new study on the effects of the recession shows that male workers have been harder hit by unemployment than female workers.
The ESRI report "From Boom to Recession " finds that unemployment among 20-24 year old men grew from 6 to 23 per cent between 2007 and 2012.
It says the sharp increase in the number of unemployed men is related to the collapse of the male dominated construction industry.
Researchers also found that half of lone parents were materially deprived by 2011.
