Dublin motorists were charged €2 a litre for petrol yesterday, as prices hit an all-time high in Ireland.
Maxol's M3 Mulhuddart service station was charging 200 cents per litre for premium petrol at one point yesterday.
AA Ireland had recently been predicting the price would exceed the €2 barrier.
Kevin McPartland, the chief executive of Fuels for Ireland, says the Ukraine-Russia conflict is a big factor;
"Oil prices are always very heavily dependent on the global geo-political situation and any sort of unrest always has an impact on oil prices"
But he says that Russia being a major exporter "not only of oil but also of gas, and the sanctions that are being imposed upon Russia, means that the entire energy market has been really significantly affected."
