A €135 million extension to Liffey Valley shopping centre in west Dublin has been given the go ahead.
Permission has been granted by An Bord Pleanála despite opposition from rival centre, The Square in Tallaght.
The plans include a large public plaza and new bus interchange as part of BusConnects.
Business journalist Vincent Wall says the new extension will bring the size of Liffey Valley to 122,000 sqm, six times its original size;
"Last April South Dublin County Council gave its approval for the Liffey Valley extension but development was put on hold after the Square lodged an appeal."
They argued the proposed development was “wholly unsustainable and a continuation of an outdated car-based, 1980s-style mall template”.
