More than 131,000 students will begin their Leaving Cert, Leaving Cert Applied and Junior Cycle exams this morning,
This year marks the full return of externally delivered examinations for all candidates since 2019, the year before the Covid pandemic.
The numbers involved have increased by 6 percent since 2019. First up in the Leaving Certificate is English Paper 1.
The Minister for Education Norma Foley is wishing student well and has commended them for showing such resilience during the pandemic;
"They have shown tremendous resilience, determination and focus over these past two years and they have been especially challenging two years but they have just got on with the work to hand."
The HSE is urging to students to remember the importance of sleep, diet, and downtime during this stressful period.
Examiners
Meanwhile a last-minute plea has been issued for teachers to work as examiners.
The Irish Times reports that the State Examinations Commission, which made the appeal, is experiencing a shortfall in applications.
The shortage is one of the reasons a results date for both Leaving and Junior Cert results, has yet to be released.
