The Justice Minister says he had to fire the Garda Confidential Recipient Oliver Connolly.
Alan Shatter's outlined the reasons for his decision. after the leak of a transcript of a conversation between Mr Connolly and a Garda whistleblower.
The transcript alleges that Mr Connolly told Maurice McCabe that Minister Shatter would "go after him" if he felt his reputation was being threatened.
In a statement last night, Minister Shatter said Oliver Connolly failed to deny the contents of the transcript, and he was left with no other option but to relieve him of his duties.
