The Data Protection Commissioner says the Justice Minister has broken the law.
It's after Alan Shatter disclosed personal information about TD Mick Wallace on live TV last year.
It's ruled that Alan Shatter breached data protection law when revealing that the independent TD had been cautioned for using his mobile phone while driving.
The finding does not indicate any criminal charges, but may leave the Minister liable to a claim for damages from Deputy Wallace.
The minister has 21 days to appeal the ruling.
In a statement this evening says he is examining the decision closely with a view to taking "appropriate further legal steps as may be advised."
