Just a third, or 33%, of people feel safe in Dublin city centre at night.
That's down from 35% in December according to a survey by the city council as part of it's night-time economy strategy.
The most common barriers to heading into town after dark were it's too expensive, respondents didn't feel safe (42%), followed by difficulties getting home (28%).
While 75% of those surveyed said a pilot welfare area, introduced at College Green in December, should be continued on a permanent basis.
It was one of a number of new initiatives introduced as part of efforts to boost the city's night-time offering, that also included Nocturnal Beats.
76% of those who had participated in the late-night trail rated it as good or excellent.
