There's been a call for a popular footbridge in Tallaght to be closed and demolished.

20-year-old Dale Creighton died in hospital after being attacked on the bridge in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The footbridge in question passes over the main road into Tallaght and brings together two busy parts of the suburb with several schools and businesses on either side.

Today, tributes for Dale Creighton lie near the spot where he was attacked in the early hours of New Year's Day.

So far, eight people have come before the courts in connection with his death.

Two appeared before Judge Anthony Halpin at Tallaght DC this morning.

Following their appearances, Judge Halpin said "any person who finds themselves in difficulty is caged in on the bridge with no chance of escape".

He then called for it to be demolished but these locals have mixed views:

Fianna Fail's Eamonn Walsh is a councillor for the Tallaght area.

He says Dale's death is an "unacceptable tragedy" but doesn't believe the bridge should be demolished.
