Irish Rail is warning passengers not to put their hands in train station bins.
It comes after staff at some stations have noticed people rummaging through rubbish to retrieve bottles and cans for the Deposit Return Scheme.
Signposts have been placed around all stations, advising passengers not to touch the rubbish for their own safety.
Dangerous Items
Iarnród Éireann spokesperson Barry Kenny says it's in passengers' best interest:
"I don't think people may be aware these are public facilities, you can have unhygienic items, or things that may injure you like broken glass or even syringes [in the bins]," he said.
"So this is just to ensure that awareness is there because we don't want people putting themselves at risk."
