A spokesperson for Irish Rail says it's the second time this has happened on the DART line and they had a spate of robberies at Limerick Junction three years ago.
He says the practice is highly dangerous:
Irish Rail are now working with Gardaí to resolve the situation.
Services are expected to resume by mid morning. In the mean time, Dublin Bus is accepting all valid rail tickets.
